Equipment:

There are only 2 things you will need for this game:

-Music

-Dance Poses

You can create your own or you can use mine which can be found here:

The set includes over 70 different poses

How To Play

There are 2 different ways you can play. I use both ways and it usually depends on the grade level, time of year, and learning outcomes that we are working on.

Variation #1

This variation is more structured and is a great way teach/review locomotor movements

▪️ Have your students spread out.

▪️ Students can only travel on the lines of the gym floor.

▪️ Before turning on the music, give students a locomotor movement and this is how they will travel around the gym. For example skipping, galloping, jumping, running, etc.

▪️ When the music starts, students can begin performing the movement

▪️ When the music stops, students will stop and look at you. You will choose a dance pose and hold it high in the air.

▪️ Students have 5 seconds to mirror/mimic the pose you are holding in the air. When you get to 0, yell “FREEZE!”

▪️ Students must freeze and hold the pose until you say “UNFREEZE”

▪️ Depending on the grade level and pose, you can change the time to make it either easier or harder

▪️ Before starting the music for the next round, yell out a new locomotor movement for students to perform.

▪️ Repeat the process and you can gradually increase the difficulty of the game by choosing harder poses.

Variation #2

This variation is more about exploring and giving students the opportunity to move in their own way.

▪️ Have your students spread out around the gym. They don’t have to be on the lines!

▪️ When the music starts, students can start showing off their dance moves or start moving around the gym however they feel

▪️ For safety reasons, I always add in the rule that students can’t go upside down.

▪️ Repeat the process and you can gradually increase the difficulty of the game by choosing harder poses.

Fun Challenge

A fun challenge to add to this game is showing 2, 3, or 4 poses at once

Students will have to find a partner(s) and each one will mirror/mimic each pose that you are holding
